Somewhere in the mountains of Utah, an Alligator Juniper fell — and Mel Johnson was there to carry it home. In his Las Vegas workshop, he held that piece of wood in his hands the way he's held wood his entire life: not as raw material, but as something already alive, already shaped by wind and drought and time. The cracks running across this heart's surface aren't flaws he worked around. They're the tree's own history, honored and preserved. The arrow came later — a symbol as old as love itself, here made tangible in aged wood and painted with the geometry of the Southwest. Through the shaft threads a suede medicine bag, hand-tied and small enough to hold a secret, finished with a silver feather that catches the light like a quiet prayer. The painted medallion at the arrow's center — vivid blue, red, and gold against the dark grain — brings the whole piece into conversation with something ancient and enduring. This is the work Mel Johnson has always been building toward: not craftsmanship for its own sake, but honoring. Taking wood that lived a full life in the wild and giving it a second chance to be seen, to be felt, to mean something. This heart has already been struck. It survived. And now it carries its story into yours.
